This week we’ve sent several sleek new recruits onto the streets of Stockton-on-Tees. Care Matters have acquired 5 fabulous new ATB bikes to help our carers travel around town without having to use either public transport, or their own vehicle.
We appreciate that not everybody who joins us is a driver, and that some choose not to drive as well, so our new fleet of bikes will help to cut down on travel-time between locations, including our Stockton office, for a number of our existing staff.
Safer, COVID-Confident travel
However, travel by bicycle also has several other advantages – particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the carers who use our new bikes will be able to avoid public transport, they will of course come into less contact with other people – thereby significantly decreasing the chance of spreading illness.
And with the bikes able to be quickly and easily sanitised in between trips, and after each use too, they become efficient and essential on so many levels! Not to mention helping to burn a few extra calories in the meantime as well, and being a greener alternative to other forms of transport.
Alongside the bikes, we’ve also received a delivery of helmets, locks, bike-pumps, lights, and fluorescent jackets for our carers to stay safe on the roads, and secure their bikes between journeys. And who knows, maybe we’ll have a few more bikes out on the roads in the near future, too?
One month into the new year, this is the latest way we’ve diversified our services, for the safety of both our own staff, and those we care for. Throughout the pandemic, safety has been at the front and centre of everything we do and, while the situation will no doubt continue to change, this will remain our main focus throughout 2021, and beyond.
