Care Matters carers are trained to deliver Dementia Care. Dementia is a general term to describe a number of different types of progressive neurological disorders.
Everybody with dementia displays different behaviours and lives with it very much in their own unique way. However, it has been medically proven that changes and disruption to routines and environment can adversely affect the individual.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia and it is believed there are over half a million people in the UK alone suffering from this illness. Typically, the earliest signs are unexplained lapses in memory and the sufferer may have difficulty recalling recent events and learning new information. Sadly, it is a progressive disease and worsens, as more areas of the brain become damaged. However, memory recall for events happening a long time ago is often unaffected in the earlier stages of the disease.

Since my partner came home and needed 24 hour care, how amazing my carers have been with him. Every one of them goes above and beyond their duties. I have never seen him laugh and smile so much since all carers make him feel part of the crew. MS, partner of service user.
